Answer to Question 1

D
The patient with a newly placed tracheostomy will need help clearing the airway and can provide a sputum specimen only by having the airway suctioned. A client with an endotracheal tube in place can contribute a sputum specimen only with the assistance of suctioning. A patient in the later stages of a muscle-wasting disease would not have the strength to expectorate a sputum specimen and would require suctioning. The patient with a chronic cough, if there are no other considerations, would be able to expectorate a sputum specimen and would not require suctioning.

Answer to Question 2

B
The manager has begun conducting informal negotiation. This includes managing the emotions, setting ground rules, and clarifying the problem. The first step of conflict resolution is introspective and is similar to data gathering. The negotiator thinks, What am I trying to achieve? What problems am I likely to encounter? The next step, setting the stage, may involve confronting the two parties with their behavior toward one another and making direct statements designed to open communication and challenge them to seek resolution of the situation. After conducting the negotiation, the parties move to making offers and counteroffers, and then to agreeing on the resolution of the conflict.
