It is useful for patients with rapidly progressive hearing loss or manual dexterity difficulties, but it is more visible and interferes with wearing eyeglasses and using a phone. An in-the-canal aid is the newest, smallest, and least visible and fits entirely in the ear canal. It does not interfere with wearing eyeglasses or using the telephone, but it does not accommodate progressive hearing loss and requires manual dexterity to operate.
