Contraindications to the use of progestins include undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. Other contrain-dications include thromboembolic disorders, liver disease, breast or genital tract cancer, and cer-ebrovascular bleeding.

Common minor adverse effects of estrogen pharmacotherapy include nausea, headache, midcycle bleeding, breast tenderness and enlargement, abdominal bloating, and increased vaginal dis-charge.
