The enteric coating of either phenolphthalein or bisacodyl should not be taken with antacids or within 1 hour after consuming dairy products. Otherwise, the enteric coating may be prematurely removed.

Of all the stimulant laxatives listed, cascara sagrada should not be given to patients with intoler-ance to alcohol. The aromatic fluid extract formulation of this drug contains 18 alcohol and should be avoided by these patients.
