Redness, swelling, warmth, pain, and sometimes loss of function occur as local signs and symp-toms of inflammation. Systemic manifestations include fever, headache, loss of appetite, lethargy or malaise, and weakness.

Methotrexate is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. The teratogenic effects of the drug during the first trimester can be severe.
