A patient is to receive 40 mg of furosemide IV because of evidence of respiratory compromise from pulmonary edema. How should the nurse administer the drug?
 
  1. Give an IV push over 10 minutes.
  2. Add the drug to 200 mL of fluid, and give over 20 minutes.
  3. Give an IV push over 2 minutes.
  4. Administer over 2 hours in 250 mL of normal saline.
