Answer to Question 1

ANS: B, D
Mefloquine is contraindicated in patients who have a history of epilepsy and psychiatric disorders.
Mefloquine is not contraindicated in patients with renal insufficiency, osteoarthritis, or type 2 diabetes.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
The metronidazole concentration in the stomach remains low, therefore some amoebas survive. Using iodoquinol as the subsequent drug achieves high concentrations, killing the remaining amoebas.
Pentamidine, atovaquone, and nitazoxanide are indicated for treatment of diseases other than amebiasis.
