Patients should be instructed to take lovastatin with the evening meal. Statins should be taken with the evening meal, not before breakfast. Statins should not be administered without regard to meals and should not be taken on an empty stomach.

Concurrent use of ketoconazole would warrant a reduction in the dosage of cyclosporine. Keto-conazole often is given concurrently with cyclosporine so that the patient's dosage of cyclospo-rine, which is costly, can be reduced. Phenytoin would cause a decrease in cyclosporine levels. Prednisone often is given concurrently with cyclosporine to suppress the immune response. Tri-methoprim/sulfamethoxazole reduces levels of cyclosporine in the body.
