Answer to Question 1

C
Feedback:
Patients being treated with any adrenergic agonists who are also taking ma huang, guarana, or caffeine are at increased risk for overstimulation, including increased blood pressure, stroke, and death. The nurse should counsel patients to avoid these ingredients. There would be no reason to prevent the patient from ingesting eggs, bacon, or milk.

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
Older patients should be started on lower doses of the drugs and should be monitored very closely for potentially serious arrhythmias or blood pressure changes. Other options are incorrect.
