The health care provider may be encouraged to use a smaller dosage of each drug, leading to fewer adverse effects, but still having a therapeutic impact on the pathogen. Many microbial infections are caused by more than one organism; each pathogen may react to a different anti-infective agent. Combination drugs do not have a better chance at killing the microorganism and they do not increase the absorption of the drugs.
