Alosetron (Lotronex) is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist indicated for treating women with chronic severe diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome that has not responded to conventional therapy. Rifaximin (Xifaxan) is a nonsystemic antibiotic that would not be prescribed for this patient. Nitazoxanide (Alinia) is an antiprotozoal agent used for Giardia lamblia. Cholestyramine (Questran) is a bile-binding drug and is not the drug of choice for this patient.
