Stimulant laxatives are the most commonly used laxative with these patients. Lactulose is not usually recommended. Saline laxatives are not recommended due to electrolyte imbalance. Bulk-forming laxatives are not usually recommended for patients with cancer because they may not be able to drink adequate amounts of fluid required with these medications.
