Many patients begin to feel better with the initiation of therapy and then discontinue medications altogether or miss individual doses. Patients and their families should be educated about adherence to medication regimens and taught to not skip doses, even if they feel well. Inconsistent use of nitrates and calcium channel blockers does not normally lead to hypertension.
