D. While holding wings or needle hub, insert safety Huber needle through skin at a 90-degree angle and push firmly down until needle penetrates silicone septum and is in portal chamber.
A. Do not irrigate forcefully if resistance is felt.
B. Never use a syringe less than 10 ml because the psi pressure is too high.
C. If Huber needle is withdrawn, prepare skin for new insertion with a sterile Huber needle.

B. Secure catheter with nondominant hand while preparing to apply dressing.
A. Perform hand hygiene. Apply disposable gloves.
C. Apply the final swab in a circular pattern moving outward from the insertion site.
D. Do not tape over connection of access tubing or port to IV catheter.
