A. Perform hand hygiene before and after palpating, inserting, replacing, or dressing any intravascular device. Maintain use of sterile dressings.
B. Replace IV tubing, including piggyback tubing and stopcocks, no more frequently than at 72-hour intervals unless clinically indicated.
D. Do not routinely apply topical antimicrobial ointment to the insertion site of peripheral venous catheters or central venous catheter insertion sites.
