C. Petechiae are tiny, pinpoint-size, red or purple spots on the skin caused by small hemorrhages in the skin layers.
A. Here is a simple way to remember the characteristics that should alert you to the possibility of malignant melanoma: C Color blue/black or variegated.
B. Pustules are elevated areas filled with pus.
D. Stroke skin surfaces lightly with fingertips to detect texture of skin's surface. Note whether skin is smooth or rough, thick or thin, tight or supple and if localized areas of hardness or lesions are present. Localized texture changes result from trauma, surgical wounds, or lesions.

B. Pack gauze snugly against wound. Be sure all wound surfaces are covered by warm compress. Packing of compress prevents rapid cooling from underlying air currents.
A. Sterile gloves are used to contact open wound.
C. Removing hot compress after 20 minutes and then reapplying in 15 minutes if desired maintains vasodilation and positive therapeutic effects. Local application of heat for more than 20 minutes may result in reflex vasoconstriction.
D. Cover moist compress with dry sterile dressing and bath towel. Apply aquathermia or waterproof heating pad over the towel.
