Answer to Question 1

C
In addition to standard precautions, use airborne precautions for patients known or suspected to have serious illnesses transmitted by airborne droplet nuclei. Examples of such illnesses include measles, varicella (including disseminated zoster), and TB. Airborne precautions are not appropriate for viral infections spread by droplet transmission, including adenovirus, influenza, mumps, parvovirus B19, and rubella. Contact precautions would be appropriate for a patient with pediculosis.

Answer to Question 2

D
D. This reduces the transmission of microorganisms; powder may irritate the eyes. Snug gloves prevent accidental contact with the eyes.
A. Contact lens care is not a sterile procedure and does not require sterile gloves.
B. Rinsing the hands with alcohol has no advantage during care of contact lenses and any lingering alcohol would be painful if it touched the client's eye.
C. A fluffy towel could transmit lint to the nurse's hands that could enter the client's eye.
