Apply body lotion to the skin as needed and topical moisturizing agents to dry, flaky, reddened, or scaling areas. Decreased bath water temperature causes chilling. Do not massage any reddened area on the patient's skin. Reddened areas, especially over bony prominences, indicate localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue and cannot be ignored.
