Maintaining the integrity of rituals and mourning practices gives families a sense of acceptance of the client's death and an inner peace. The ability of families to express their cultural values when a client dies becomes a tool to make predictable and controllable that which is unpredictable and inevitable.
A. Identify the body according to agency policy. Leave identification in place as directed in agency policy; this ensures proper identification of the body for delivery to morgue, autopsy room, and funeral home.
B. After the significant others have left the room, remove all linen and the client's gown (refer to agency policy). Place body in body bag or apply the shroud as required by the agency.
