Answer to Question 1

B. Using a sterile applicator, apply a small amount of topical antibiotic ointment to pin site and cover with a sterile 2  2 split gauze dressing. (NOTE: Some physicians leave site uncovered.)
A. Dip sterile cotton-tipped applicator into sterile container of one-half hydrogen peroxide and one-half saline, maintaining sterile environment. Place applicator by the pin and roll it along the skin, away from insertion site. Clean outward in a circular fashion from the pin. Dispose of applicator. (Some institutions use only hydrogen peroxide or only saline.)
C. Dip a new sterile applicator in normal saline; roll applicator across skin away from pin. Removes cleansing solution to reduce skin irritation.
D. Repeat procedure for other pin site.
