Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Probenecid promotes renal excretion of uric acid and inhibits the reabsorption of urate in the kidney, which results in the reduction of uric acid in the blood. It is used to treat hyperuricemia and chronic gouty arthritis. The primary therapeutic outcome expected with probenecid therapy is prevention of acute attacks of gouty arthritis. Probenecid does not prevent formation of uric acid crystals or provide analgesia. Colchicines provide relief from acute attacks of gout.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Although the causes are unknown, one of the neurochemical characteristics of Alzheimer's disease is persistent activation of NMDA receptors in the CNS. Memantine blocks these receptors and is used alone or in combination with an acetylcholinesteras e inhibitor in the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's dementia. A diet high in tyrosine, a precursor of dopamine, might increase production of the neurotransmitter. Serotonin production is largely influenced by exercise; increasing exercise stimulates the production of more neurotransmitters. Reuptake of central neurotransmitters, a natural event, may be enhanced by drugs such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Looking at the sun may not only cause headache and distort your vision temporarily, but it can also cause permanent eye damage. Any exposure to sunlight adds to the cumulative effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on your eyes. UV exposure has been linked to eye disorders such as macular degeneration, solar retinitis, and corneal dystrophies.
