Explain what is meant by the power of a hypothesis test and suggest one way a researcher might change their study design to increase the power of the test.

Suppose on a highway with a speed limit of 65 mph, the speed of cars are independent and normally distributed with an average speed = 65 mph and standard deviation = 5 mph. What is the expected value of the sample mean speed in a random sample of n = 100 cars?

Answer to Question 1

The power of a hypothesis test is the probability that we decide to reject the null hypothesis given the alternative hypothesis is actually true. One way to increase power is to increase the sample size.
