Answer to Question 1

The area to the left of z is 0.005, hence z = -2.58 . Then, -2.58 = (x  6.2) / 1.4 . Solving for x, we get x = (-2.58)(1.4) + 6.2 = 2.588 years.

Answer to Question 2

P(x < 2) = P(z < -3.0) = 0.5000  0.4987 = 0.0013
