Answer to Question 1

P(-1.78 < z< 0.0) = 0.4306

Answer to Question 2

If A and B are independent, P(A and B) = P(A) P(B) Since A and B are mutually exclusive, P(A and B) = 0 . Thus, 0 = P(A) P(B). This is impossible since P(A)0 and P(B)0 . Therefore, A and B are dependent.

Drug abusers experience the following scenario: The pleasure given by their drug (or drugs) of choice is so strong that it is difficult to eradicate even after years of staying away from the substances involved. Certain triggers may cause a drug abuser to relapse. Research shows that long-term drug abuse results in significant changes in brain function that persist long after an individual stops using drugs.
