A recent study by researchers at EMU and UM found that an increasing number of college women view heavy alcohol consumption as a way to make a feminist statement. Of the college women interviewed, 60 reported that if they were to drink like a guy their male peers would take notice. These data are to be used to test if a majority of area undergraduate college women in the area have this perception, that is, to test the hypotheses: H0: p = 0.50 versus Ha: p > 0.50. The p-value for the test was 0.078. Select the appropriate decision using
  a 5 significance level.
1.The result is statistically significant so the null hypothesis can be rejected.
2.The result is statistically significant so the null hypothesis cannot be rejected.
3.The result is not statistically significant so the null hypothesis can be rejected.
4.The result is not statistically significant so the null hypothesis cannot be rejected.

Question 2

A recent study by researchers at EMU and UM found that an increasing number of college women view heavy alcohol consumption as a way to make a feminist statement. The study involved interviews with a large number of undergraduate women during the spring of 2003. Of the college women interviewed, 60 reported that if they were to drink like a guy their male peers would take notice. These data are to be used to test if a majority of area undergraduate college women in the area have this perception, that is, to test the hypotheses:
  H0: p = 0.50 versus Ha: p > 0.50.
1.The z-statistic would be negative since 0.50 or 50 is smaller than 60.
2.The z-statistic would be positive since 60 or 0.60 is larger than 0.50.
3.The sign of the z-statistic cannot be known since we do not know the sample size n.
