THIS PROCEDURE HAS A TENDENCY TO ARTIFICIALLY SPREAD OUT CLUMPS OF STUDENTS WHO ARE AT THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF THE SCALE, SO THAT STUDENTS WHOSE SCORES WERE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER MAY RECEIVE DIFFERENT LETTER GRADES.
