Answer to Question 1

Starting in the top row, number the trees from 0001 to 1237. Go through the table taking four digits at a time, and select the corresponding tree. Ignore repeats and numbers larger than 4237. Keep going until you have 20 distinct trees selected.

19994 65142 05087 11232 39129 49559 94540 24070

The selected trees are numbers 490, 3509, 1397, 1789, 1999

Answer to Question 2

Let x = the number of babies born during a one-hour period at this hospital.
Then x is a Poisson random variable with  = 4.
