Answer to Question 1

Altering the proportions of the form and blurring the formal boundaries

contrasting sections merge into one another

Creating contrast between sections through changes in tempo and meter, rather than melody

Deriving virtually all of the melodic material from the inversion of the three-note pattern heard at the very beginning of the symphony

Replacing literal repetition with the developmental variation

All of these extend Beethoven's own modification of the form
