 the increase in guerrilla activity in Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia
 the death of Ernesto Che Guevara in Bolivia (1967)
 the subsequent spread of guerrilla fighting in Central America and Venezuela

 The Nueva Cancin movement began in the 1950s and 1960s in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay and subsequently spread throughout Latin America. The movement paralleled the tumultuous times in the United States that were occurring at the same time.
