Answer to Question 1

 ascent: sa = C, ri = D, ga = E, ma = F, pa = G, da = A, ni = B, sa = C
 descent: sa = C, ni = B, pa = G, ma = F, ri = D, sa = C
This Natai raga is noteworthy for its shake/oscillation/vibrato (rapid up and down pitch fluctuations) on the D (ri) as it descends downward to the tonal center (sa).

Answer to Question 2

The performance begins with alapana, an improvised section in free rhythm for veena alone and an introduction to the raga used in the composition.
