Answer to Question 1

 a feeling in the gut, dancing to its beat, nodding assent, a vocalized That's right, you got it, that's the truth'

Answer to Question 2

 musicians respond to singers' melodic phrases with melodic phrases that may mimic, vary, or otherwise answer another performer. When one blues singer responds to another by singing verses of his or her own, these newly composed verses use songrather than speechto talk to another singer.
