 Africa has symbolic and psychological meaning to different people, in addition to being a physical (geographical) land. For example, people of African descent may view Africa as their ancestral homeland and place of empowerment, while industrialized citizens of information societies' may view Africa as a pastoral Eden or the impoverished third world.
