 It accompanies a Sioux war dance.

 The melody is ornamented by sharp emphases, pulsations, and glides (pitch sliding down from tones or portamento).
 These melodic nuances are not mere ornamentation' but an important part of the special art of Plains singing McAllester, WOM, page 39.
