ANS: C. mijwiza, nay, buzaq, qanun, voices and percussion

Answer to Question 2

  • Ofra Haza is a Yemeni Jew who grew up in Israel performing in community theater and whose music has become known throughout the world (global music).

  • She combines her local musical style (diaspora) with some of the features of Western pop music  e.g., the Yemeni tradition of using a brass tray and tin can as percussion instruments to accompany religious songs of Yemeni Jews. Her songs may be presented in a strong, metered pop style accompanied by Western music ensembles.

  • Her style of music may be classified as World Beat or EthnoPop, or under the more ambiguous term of World Music.
