 Rock and roll began in the 1950s as white covers of black rhythm and blues.
 Since the 1960s blues music has moved outside of its original African-American community into mainstream popular music.
 Today, blues has found international audiences and artistsfor example, Eric Clapton (England); blues is also heard in Czechoslovakia, Tanzania, and Japan. Nowadays blues is regarded as a universal phenomenon, accessible to all.
