What term describes the distinctive sound quality of different instruments such as a trumpet or violin, which are recognized as different even though both instruments may be playing the same pitch?

The high-low quality of a musical tone is called pitch and is created by an object vibrating constantly at a fixed number of cycles per second, or pitch frequency. The faster (more frequent) the vibrations, the higher the pitch. Give examples of a high pitch and a low pitch.

  • All melodies begin at a particular loudness level. The volume (or dynamic) level may remain unchanged throughout the music, or may increase or decrease in loudness level as the music proceeds. The changes in loudness levels may be abrupt or gradual.
