Answer to Question 1

Absolute pressure starts at a perfect vacuum, no pressure, and goes up. 0 on an absolute pressure scale is the lowest possible reading. Gauge pressure uses the atmospheric pressure as its 0 point. Typically 14.7 psia = 0 psig

The weight of the air in the atmosphere.
