What is hermetic compressor?

Why is more horsepower required to produce a ton of cooling at an evaporator saturation temperature of 0F than at 40F?

Answer to Question 1

A hermetic compressor contains the compressor and motor together inside a welded steel housing.

Answer to Question 2

The lower temperature evaporator increases the pressure difference that the compressor must maintain.
