Answer to Question 1

Sixty cycle current can create a low frequency hum in some motors and transformers. This hum is a result of the frequency of current that passes through the coil. Occasionally the sound is amplified because the motor or transformer is not tight on its mounting brackets.

Transformers increase or decrease incoming voltages to meet the requirements of the load.
