Answer to Question 1

Oil that is not intended for use in vacuum pumps has a much higher vapor pressure than vacuum pump oil, and will limit the amount of vacuum the pump can produce.

Answer to Question 2

There are no moving parts, the response is fast and the regulatory element can easily be a reasonable distance from the sensing element.
