Answer to Question 1

Copper plating indicates that the system is contaminated with acid.

Answer to Question 2

Carbon from a previous burnout left in the system can ground out the new compressor by providing a conductive path between the motor terminals and the shell. Acids can attack system components, including the compressor windings.
