With conventional rack systems, parallel compressors are turned on and off by a control system and this cycling leads to a high current inrush each time a compressor starts. This starting and stopping will also lead to wear and tear on the compressors. In comparison, rack systems that use a VFD for motor speed control can adjust the compressor capacity throughout a wide range of demand that limits cycling, decreases power consumption, and increases the useful life of the compressor.
