Answer to Question 1

Common installation related contaminants include carbon, oxides, air, and water.

Answer to Question 2

Proprietary systems follow their own unique protocol that is licensed and controlled by the manufacturer. An open protocol is available to all manufacturers. Open protocols establish rules that are followed by multiple manufacturers so that their systems can communicate with each other, allowing pieces of equipment from different manufacturers to operate as a single intelligent system.
