Answer to Question 1

A semiconductor is a material that is neither a good conductor nor a good insulator. Semiconductor materials are often made from germanium and silicon. These materials due to their peculiar crystalline structure may under certain conditions act as conductors and under other conditions act as insulators.

Answer to Question 2

Distributed systems utilize direct expansion case coils similar to the multiplex direct expansion design. However to minimize the long runs of refrigerant lines, the compressors are distributed throughout the store near the cases being cooled.
