Answer to Question 1

Because they offer a substantial savings of space within the building.

Answer to Question 2

The maximum pressure drop for a suction line should not exceed a saturation temperature drop of 2F. The pressure drop which corresponds to 2F varies depending upon the refrigerant and evaporator temperature. It can be found using a pressure-temperature chart.
