Why do fiberglass ductboard and flex duct have higher friction loss rates than sheet metal?

Answer to Question 1

Fiberduct and flex duct are not as smooth and even on the inside, so they have higher resistance to airflow.

Answer to Question 2

The shear is preferable because it produces a clean, square cut with no chips, shavings, or burrs.
