Answer to Question 1

These clearances are the minimum distance, in accordance with the manufacturer and local codes, from each of the furnace surfaces to any combustible materials. There also needs to be room allowed for servicing the furnace.

Answer to Question 2

Reduced voltage lowers the furnace capacity. A furnace operating on 208 volts instead of 240 volts will have only 75 of its rating at 240 volts.
