Answer to Question 1

Closing the suction line service valve causes the compressor to pull a vacuum on itself. Compressors that are not designed to operate in a vacuum can arc out electrically if operated in a vacuum.

Answer to Question 2

The impeller acts like a fan. Refrigerant enters in the middle of the impeller and is thrown outward by centrifugal force.
