Answer to Question 1

Check the Fuel - Start by checking to see if there is oil in the tank and if the oil is clean.
Make sure all valves in the fuel lines are open.
Check the combustion chamber for unburned oil - better safe than sorry Check the voltage to the furnace, including the grounding and polarity. Check to see that the thermostat is calling for heat. The furnace won't operate unless it is told to.
Check to see if the primary control has tripped.

Answer to Question 2

A temperature sensing fan switch is used on some furnaces while the primary control is used on others.
