Impedance is the total opposition to an AC circuit caused by inductive reactance, capacitive reactance, and resistance.

Indicate whether the statement is true or false

Question 2

Trace the path of a generated AC voltage from the generating station where it is produced to the point where you would connect an air conditioner at a home in a residential area. Be sure to identify all the important parts of the system between the generation station and the residence.

Answer to Question 1

TRUE

Answer to Question 2

Voltage is generated as three phase voltage at the power plant in your area, which may be coal fired, nuclear or hydroelectric. From the power plant, the voltage moves and is stepped up to thousands of volts and then it moves across the country over high tension lines. When the power enters a city it comes into a transformer bank that reduces the voltage and sends it down each residential street as single phase voltage. At the house, voltage comes into the residence through a meter set and into the main load center. From the load center the voltage leaves through a circuit breaker to the fused disconnect and then to the condenser section where it provides power to the compressor and condenser fan.

Once thought to have neurofibromatosis, Joseph Merrick (also known as "the elephant man") is now, in retrospect, thought by clinical experts to have had Proteus syndrome. This endocrine disease causes continued and abnormal growth of the bones, muscles, skin, and so on and can become completely debilitating with severe deformities occurring anywhere on the body.

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
